Under Construction
Things may look a little weird around here while I migrate from Wordpress.com to Wordpress.org. My plan is to get my professional website, personal and professional blogs into one application, because I have big big plans for my future. I will be working on monetizing my blogs and expanding my website, while saving lots of money of web hosting. My plan is to complete the transition and cleanup over this weekend, and have a new and improved angelawd and Pearl Writing Services by Monday. Whew!
Maybe you’re interested in the details because you want to do this yourself (if you’re not, you might as well skip all the posts this weekend and come back on Monday or Tuesday). So I’ll start with some backstory.
When I started Pearl Writing Services years ago, I wanted to put up a website quickly and get into my real work, writing. I went with a website solution I’d used before when helping the company Fresh Look Images create their website. I used Homestead to create the website because it was quick and easy - I had a nice site up and running within an hour of choosing my template. However the web hosting cost is much higher than average - $20 a month.
When I started my blogs, I tried two of the most user-friendly and popular applications, Blogger and Wordpress, to decide which I’d like to use long-term. There are things I like and don’t like about each, but moving to wordpress.org will allow me to post ads and sell ad space on my blogs someday. I know that ads may not be fun for some of my gentle readers, but as a professional writer, my job is to get paid for what I write. If you feel like clicking on those ads, I will get paid; if you don’t, you can just pretend you don’t see them. Deal?
To power my grand plan to take over the internet, I chose Bluehost because of the awards and good reviews it has received, as well as the fact that I’m now spending about $7 rather than $20. For those who don’t understanding hosting (as I didn’t a few years ago), the host is the one that stores all your files and makes them available to the internet. Wordpress.com offers free hosting, but there are a lot of limitations in exchange for that freeness.
I’m going to go get some coffee and when I come back I’ll post on how I have gotten to the point I’m at today, with a default wordpress.org theme and all my angelawd.wordpress.com files moved over.

I clicked in here to immediately thought, W.T.HOLY.F??? (’scuze da langwage) Did I miss some announcement that you were going to do this? Not that you are required to give one, but my heart almost stopped when I got this weird looking thing instead of your usual smiling face! Can’t wait to see it all up and running.
