My website transfer and setup adventures

Yesterday’s home improvement took longer than I expected, so today I’m wrapping up the transfer of my blogs and website to a new host. So far it’s all been pretty easy.

This morning I transferred my website files using File Transfer Protocol (FTP) which is an application that I used from Filezilla. Filezilla produced a page that showed all the files on my hard drive and the files on my new host, and once I highlighted what I wanted, it only took 8 minutes to upload.

I did find out that I skipped a step when transferring my domain name - I didn’t take the crucial step of changing my name servers (the addresses that point you to the host) to Bluehost. This means that when you click on pearlwriting.com today, it still shows my old host and says, “Sorry, this account is disabled.” Not good for business. I had to call Bluehost’s tech support and they told me what I had to do without sounding like they were thinking, “What a newbie!” However, this final step is the one that completes the transfer and I read that it can take up to 36 hours for the transfer to finish.

So I’m going to browse some blog templates that the nice folks at www.blog-well.com sent me. Onward and upward!

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE MOVE! Love the new house! Now I need to go change all my links on my sidebar. No biggie. I do for you anytime! ;o)

I’ll get use to this new site. It’s neat how it shows the older posts at the bottom.

Only one itsy bitsy “thing” here… I hate that “type your comment here” thing in the comments box. I detest having to slow down to delete it when I’m ready blather away. I’m old. It interrupts my train of thou… what was I saying?? LOL! Ok - done complaining now.

Good point, maybe I’ll try to figure out how to change that. Glad you like the new place!
