It’s not about ME after all.

Where did I get the idea that it was? After moaning and sighing about my own pain in seeing my husband’s job drift away in a cloud of Human Resources hot air, I decided on an emotional cleanse. This, apparently, was the mental Ex-Lax I needed to let God in to do his divine surgery on my heart.

Last night at worship band rehearsal (at my sister church, not my home church) I saw the knocked-down, dragged-out husband of one of the church council members, and in my perception he seemed to sort of wince away from Joe and I. I saw in that moment how much pain, stress, and physical damage these church leaders are experiencing. Heck, these people have to deal with the council member who performs a variety of statistics and budgetary math completely unknown to the likes of Pascal, Archimedes, and Pythagoras. They also have to work with the interim pastor who has trouble listening to others and likes to talk about himself. A lot.

So last night during prayer time I asked the team to pray for our other church’s leaders and described a bit of the difficulty they’re facing. Because it’s not just all about me, as I previously thought. Apparently, other people are struggling too. Thanks, God.
